Denmark has created a drug that replaces active sports
The scientific Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry published an article by a group of Danish scientists on the development of the LaKe molecule, which is a simple ester of lactic acid and 1,3-butanediol. According to scientists, the benefits for the body from taking LaKe are comparable to a ten-kilometer run on an empty stomach.
During hydrolysis in the human body, the LaKe molecule breaks down into two main components: lactate and the precursor of beta-hydroxybutyrate. These substances are also produced during sports. Lactate and beta-hydroxybutyrate have beneficial effects on cardiac activity and appetite regulation, as well as promote the elimination of fatty acids from the bloodstream, reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes, and activate regeneration mechanisms in the body.
Scientists have already conducted preclinical studies of LaKe in rats, the results of which concluded that the drug is well tolerated in animals, as well as its effectiveness.
At the same time, even at high dosages, the drug did not show any signs of toxicity. In addition, the drug penetrates the blood-brain barrier and increases the levels of metabolites in the brain.
According to the researchers, their development can be used in the treatment of various neurological and metabolic diseases, as well as used as a dietary supplement for people with impaired health or injuries. However, further clinical trials are needed to confirm its effectiveness and safety, which are planned to be conducted soon.
Nevertheless, the publication emphasizes that even in the case of a positive research result, the drug will not be able to completely replace physical activity.
