1. Demographic situation

Data on the number and composition of the population by age and sex, general indicators of population reproduction is published in the section: Birth rate, mortality (by age and sex and by causes of death).

Population censuses are the source to obtain data on population.

The estimation of population for the inter-census period is based on the results of the latest population census.

The average annual population is equal to the average of the population by the beginning of the given and the beginning of the next year.

Data on the population and its age and sex characteristics is given to the permanent population, which includes persons permanently resident in the given territory, including who are temporarily absent at the time of the census.

The data on births and deaths are obtained on the basis of the annual statistical development of the information contained in the records of civil status, which are compiled by the registry offices. Only those born alive are included in the number of births.

The total birth and mortality rates are the ratio of the number of live births and the number of deaths in the calendar year to the average annual population. Calculated in permille.

Natural population growth is the difference between the number of births and deaths over a certain period of time.

The coefficient of natural growth is defined as the difference between the total fertility and mortality rates.

Infant mortality rate – mortality of children under 1 year of age. The infant mortality rate is calculated according to the following formula:

where m0t and m0t-1 are deceased at the age of 1 year from the number of births in year
t and t-1 respectively;

NT and NT-1 are the number of births in year t and T-1 respectively.

In connection with the transition to the extended birth criteria (Order Ministry of Russia from 27.12.2011 G. № 1687 n “On medical criteria of birth, the form of the document on birth and the order of its issue”) in the civil registry offices since April 2012. Births and deaths of newborns with extremely low weight (from 500 to 1000 grams) are subject to registration.

Life expectancy at birth is the number of years an average person would have to live in a generation of births, provided that throughout the life of this generation, the age of death will remain at the level of the year for which The indicator is calculated.

The total birth rate shows how much the average number of children which one woman would give birth to throughout the reproductive period (15-49 years), while maintaining at each age of the birth rate of the year for which the age factors are calculated. Its value does not depend on the age structure of the population and characterizes the average birth rate in the given calendar year.

Age-related birth rates – the ratio of the number of live births in women of this age group to the average annual number of women of this age according to the current assessment. These factors characterize the average birth rate of women in each age group in the calendar year.

Age-related mortality rates – the ratio of the number of deaths in a given age during the calendar year to the average annual number of persons of this age according to the current estimate. These factors characterize the average birth rate of women in each age group in the calendar year.

The source of information about the causes of death are records in medical certificates of death, prepared by a physician regarding illness, accident, murder, suicide and other external influences (damage resulting from actions provided by law, damage without specification of their accidental or intentional nature, damage as a result of military actions), which caused death. Such records serve as grounds for indicating the cause of death in records of death certificates.

The section provides information on mortality by main classes of the most common causes of death.

Mortality rates for death reasons are the ratio of deaths from the said causes of death to the average annual population according to the current estimate. In contrast to the general mortality rates, they are calculated not per 1000 people, but for 100 000 people.

Infant mortality rates for death are calculated in the same way as mortality rates, but, in contrast, are not calculated for 100 000 people of average annual population but for 10 000 births.

Periparturient mortality is a collective concept, combining mortality of viable fetus from the 28th week (from 2012-from 22 weeks) of pregnancy and before the birthquake, as well as during childbirth and the mortality of children in the first 168 hours (7 days) of life.

The periparturient mortality rate is calculated as the ratio of the sum of the stillbirths and the deceased in the first week of life to the amount of living and dead born this year.
